Here's how we can get started:

1. Share Your Vision

The first step is to fill out my short info form below. This helps me understand your project, your goals, and your specific needs. Don't worry if you can't fill in every field – just share what you're comfortable with.

After reviewing your form and/or sample, I'll reach out within two business days to schedule a free 60-minute consultation.

FAQs

  • The quick answer is no. I’ll be the first to tell you there are no guarantees in publishing. I also can’t guarantee readers, an increase in sales, representation, or approval from your mother-in-law.

With that being said, I can certainly try to help position you for a greater chance at success. My 15 years of experience in both traditional and indie publishing gives me valuable insights into what publishers and readers are looking for. I can help you polish your manuscript, craft a compelling query letter, and develop a strong submission package. For those considering self-publishing, I offer guidance on the process and best practices. There are some people who strike it big on their first attempt, but for many authors, getting published is a journey. I'm here to be your knowledgeable guide and supportive partner along the way.

  • When I say "tailored experience," I mean that I adapt my approach to fit your unique needs and goals. No two authors or manuscripts are the same, so I don't use a one-size-fits-all method. Instead, I take the time to understand your vision, your strengths, and your challenges, then craft a personalized editing or coaching plan that's designed specifically for you and your work. This comes down to customized worksheets, creative homework assignment, and even adjusting to meet your learning and communication style.

I encourage you to book a consultation call and we can explain the process in more detail, and with more direction towards you and your needs!

  • I believe in transparent, fair pricing based on the scope and needs of each project. I’m glad you asked! I know that edits are an investment, and more, I believe that quality edits shouldn’t be restricted to who can either 1) get a publishing contract or 2) afford to pay an arm and a leg every book to pay for them. I also stand behind the quality of my work and the time I put into it. I do not charge for any additional time or materials that allow me to create a customized experience.

After our initial consultation, I'll provide a custom quote tailored to your specific needs. That being said, I use EFA pricing guides.  Rest assured, my rates are competitive within the industry, and I offer payment plans to make professional editing accessible to more authors.

I don't use a one-size-fits-all pricing model because every manuscript and author's needs are unique. For editorial projects, I charge per word. For individual or group consultations, I charge per hour.

  • Commercial fiction refers to novels written with a broad audience appeal, often in popular genres like romance, mystery, thriller, science fiction, fantasy, and women's fiction. I’ve edited, and currently take projects in, almost all areas of fiction.

I try not to box myself in too much when it comes to personal wish lists. I could tell stories from my days acquiring from the slush pile and how many times a manuscript I normally would have considered "not my genre" turned into a book of my heart. about stories! Instead, I say I am character driven as a reader and as an editor.

In terms of providing a specific genre list, I work with all typical genres of fiction, including: mystery, romance, suspense/thriller, horror (just not "exorcism"-level scary), western, sci-fi, fantasy, historical, women's fiction, YA, middle grade (that leans toward historical or serious themes)...

(I'm probably not the best fit for: very traditional sci-fi, fantasy, western, or horror. But I'm happy to take a look.)

Then we have books that are sub-genres or hybrid like: historical mystery, romantic suspense, narrative nonfiction, paranormal, books with romantic elements, book club, up-market... I love them all...

Please send me historical mystery. Please.

Then we have the niche genres: Urban fantasy and steampunk. Noir. Superhero. (Yes, I've worked on all of these as well...)

I've had years of working across the various genres, and understanding their distinguishing conventions and their readers.

I love a good story. I love working on good stories, with great authors.

But here's my honest promise. If I come across a book I believe I am not the right editor for--perhaps it's a more serious sci-fi--I'll be honest and let you know. More, I'll see if I know an editor who is the right fit to be your partner.

  • Absolutely! My listed services are just a starting point. If you have a specific need that isn't covered, please reach out. I'm always happy to discuss custom solutions. Whether it's a unique editing challenge, a specialized coaching need, or anything in between, let's talk about how I can support your writing journey.
